A weekend of events

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — Some weekends seem busier than weekdays ... in a good way though. This weekend is one such weekend. In addition to the weekend football games, there is:

— The Get-A-Mammy Pink-O-Ween Halloween Costume Party, 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, The Loft Above City Market, 101 N. Patterson St. This event offers a fun way to raise awareness regarding the risks of breast cancer and raising money to help women get mammograms.

— Battle on the Border, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, Martin Stadium. Lowndes High School Georgia Bridgemen hosts 11 bands from Georgia, Alabama and Florida in the ninth year of this daylong marching band competition.

— Remerton Reunion, 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, Knights of Columbus, St. Augustine Road. A gathering of the folks who lived in Remerton when the now-toppled mill was an operating cotton mill and the many shops that now line Remerton’s streets were mill workers’ homes.

— Quitman-Brooks County’s Third Annual Skillet Festival, Saturday, Downtown Quitman. Cast Iron Chef cook-off, cookbook authors, vendors and numerous other attractions during this increasingly popular event.

These are just a few things happening this weekend. Some of the highlights. Things that will keep you busy on a weekend but should be a whole lot more fun than a workday.
