The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — If you want to see a live theatrical performance, this is your week. Three area theatre organizations present productions in the coming days.

Gingerbread Players of Theatre Guild Valdosta presents playwright Joseph Robinette’s “The Fabulous Fable Factory.” Synopsis: “An inquisitive young boy finds an old factory operated by a Mr. Aesop and his seven fable-makers.” This show features area children performing in a show for children. It is scheduled to run Oct. 3-6, The Dosta Playhouse, 122 N. Ashley St.

Little Actors Theatre is another Valdosta-based theatre group that presents shows for children by children.

It presents playwright Tim Kelly’s “The Aliens Are Coming. The Aliens Are Coming.” Synopsis: A spoof of alien-invasion stories. It is scheduled to run Oct. 5, 6, Valdosta High School Performing Arts Center, 3101 N. Forrest St.

As part of Valdosta State University Theatre & Dance, VSU Repertory Dancers present “On the Edge.” Synopsis: “This year’s annual dance concert will present original choreography as well as restagings from our extensive repertoire by Sarah Wildes Arnett, Eric Nielsen and Catherine Schaeffer. One of the highlights in this year’s concert will reveal spectacular technical advancements as they relate to the choreographic process.” This show features choreography from VSU Dance faculty performed by VSU Dance students. It runs Oct. 3-6, Sawyer Theatre, VSU Fine Arts Building, corner of Oak and Brookwood.

While it is wonderful to have such a wide selection of shows, it would have been nice if these organizations communicated with one another so rather than compete for audiences during the same short window of days, they could complement one another by staggering their productions for different weeks.

Granted, a few theatregoers will make all three productions but many will more likely choose one over the others.
