VALDOSTA — Are you ready for some Thursday night football? The Valdosta State University Blazers are. Tonight, the Blazers play Texas A&M-Kingsville at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Though it will be broadcast as the Gulf South Conference game of the week, why not go see the game in person? Buy a ticket, have a seat in the stands, turn the bleachers into a crowd, enjoy the game outside in perfect fall football weather, breathe in that fresh air and exhale with a cheer for the Blazers to go, go, go!

If you love football, there are no excuses. No other team loyalties diverting your attention on a Thursday night. High school football is another night away. If you’re a lifelong Bulldog, Gator or Seminole fan, you can still watch these games Saturday afternoon and catch the hometown Blazers tonight.

That’s the thing, you see. The Blazers are a hometown team. It is Valdosta State University. Sometimes, judging from the stands, we as a region forget to put Valdosta into backing the Blazers.

Imagine one of the high school teams having to play without the crowd cheering them on. Such cheers inspire a team on the field. The Blazers are deserving of such support. They need such cheers as much as any team.

Fans in the stands motivate the players. Cheers charge them to play hard and push to win.

VSU crowds have been growing. They grow each year, and not just from student support, but through community support, too. Tonight’s home game may be the opportunity to grow the fan base even more.

So, take advantage of this evening. Get out of the house. Fill a seat. Cheer on the Blazers.

Think of it this way: If you love football, as you love rooting for the Blazers tonight, enjoy the game knowing that once the final whistle blows this evening, you still have games to watch Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tonight’s Blazers game is an extra credit for those who love the gridiron.
