No nonsense about ‘Nunset’

The Valdosta Daily Times

--- — The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts Presenter Series has long brought a touch of Broadway and Las Vegas to South Georgia.

Just a few weeks ago, the Presenter Series wowed audiences with an exciting Michael Jackson tribute on the Mathis City Auditorium stage. Tonight, the Presenter Series switches gears on the type of entertainment while maintaining the professional level of quality.

“Nunset Boulevard” makes a Valdosta stop as part of its national tour. The show includes star Cindy Williams, who played Shirley Feeney on TV’s “Laverne and Shirley.”

One of the many sequels to playwright Dan Goggin’s “Nunsense” comic musical, “Nunset Boulevard” has the Hoboken nuns believing they have been invited to perform in the famed Hollywood Bowl. Arriving in California, the sisters learn they have been booked in the not-so-famous Hollywood Bowl-A-Rama, a bowling alley with a small cabaret. Mirth and music ensue.

Each year, the Presenter Series brings four professional, touring shows to Valdosta. The rest of this season’s shows play in 2013, with touring productions of “Hooray for Hollywood” on Feb. 14, and “A Chorus Line” on March 11.

The Valdosta Daily Times is a proud sponsor of these shows.

Presenter Series co-chairmen Nancy Warren and Joanna Nijem, along with the series committee and the arts center staff, all deserve to take a big bow for making these shows such a success.
