Thumbs Up

The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — THUMBS UP: To Harveys Supermarkets for raising thousands of dollars to help families who lost their sons in a fatal Brooks County wreck. Harveys raised the money to help the families offset costs during this time of tragedy. The grocery store chain’s representatives presented the money to families this past week.

THUMBS UP: To Matt Gannon. Gannon and fellow Troop D417 Boy Scouts attended the National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. Gannon also served as a hometown correspondent, sharing some of his adventures with The Times readers. The Scouts returned earlier this week to South Georgia. Welcome home and thanks for representing our area with pride.

THUMBS UP: To all of the area organizations, churches, clubs, businesses and individuals helping local students return to school with plenty or materials for the classroom. In years past, it seemed there were only a couple such events. Now, there are numerous back-to-school giveaways for students who may not otherwise have pencils, papers and other items.

THUMBS UP: To the Cook County Airport for its new terminal. With the terminal complete, the Cook County Airport Authority can begin the second phase of changes which includes increased parking, two fuel farms, etc.

Meanwhile, the airport is also set to start construction on a series of hangars.
