Presenter Series: A different approach

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — The folks behind the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts Presenter Series are doing a few things differently this year.

One, as readers likely noticed in Sunday and today’s editions, Presenter Series organizers and The Times are announcing this season’s shows one at a time. This past Sunday came the announcement that the New Shanghai Circus will return for the Feb. 14, 2014, performance date. Today comes the announcement that the Broadway Boys will perform on Oct. 7. This coming Sunday will be the announcement of the third show, the Nov. 14 performance, which we can assure readers should appeal to families of all generations.

Two, because these shows, especially the production still to be announced, are on a somewhat larger scale than visiting, professional tours of past seasons, the Presenter Series offers only three shows this year in contrast to the traditional four performances.

Three, Presenter Series offers a season ticket at a reduced price through Sept. 6. Until then, a person can get a season ticket for all three shows for $100. Buying each ticket individually, at $45 per show, the early season ticket represents a $35 savings, and a $25 savings from the cost of season tickets after Sept. 6.

For many years, the arts center has scheduled the Presenter Series shows. These shows have become long-standing traditions with some families having kept the same seats year after year through their season tickets. Others discover a full season they would like to see each year. Some may love to see one or two shows while having no interest in the other productions.

We commend the arts center board and staff for its continued efforts in bringing the Presenter Series to life each season. The Valdosta Daily Times remains a proud sponsor of the Presenter Series.
