Don’t start 2013 with a DUI

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — Today marks the last day of 2012 and at midnight tonight, we will usher in the new year. However you choose to celebrate the beginning of 2013, please do so safely.

If you plan to drink, either drink at home or make sure you have a designated driver if you go out. If not, call a taxi. Call a friend. Call your boss. Call someone who can be trusted to carry you home safely to prevent your getting behind the wheel.

All too often, people think they are fine or that they’ll never get caught. Surely by now everyone understands that the Valdosta police, sheriff’s deputies and state troopers are on the lookout, not just after midnight, but throughout the evening and tomorrow as well. Zero tolerance. And many workplaces today also have a zero tolerance policy. A DUI can be grounds for immediate dismissal. Getting arrested and losing your job is no way to start off the new year.

Be safe tonight and tomorrow. Don’t drink and drive. Welcome 2013 safely.
