The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — On Wednesday, the Spine Care Center at South Georgia Medical Center and Smith Northview Hospitals was recognized as the best program of its kind in Georgia and one of the top 100 hospitals in the country.

Neurosurgeons Dr. Ed Mark, Dr. Hitham Patel, Dr. Eric Gee and Dr. James Goss are responsible for the sucessful spine and back surgeries that won the recognition for the hospitals. The physicians perform hundreds of procedures each year, and according to Healthgrades, patients are in excellent hands.

Healthgrades is an independent service that evaluates all 4,500 hospitals in the country and ranks them accordingly. The Spine Care center ranks in the nation’s Top 100 nationwide and was awarded five stars for excellence.

One of the primary indicators for the survey is patient outcomes, and according ot Healthgrades, patients had a 61 percent lower risk of complications than if they were at a lower ranked hospital.

Valdosta-Lowndes County and the region are fortunate to have this high quality of physicians practicing locally. Neurosurgeons are among the most elite specialists in the healthcare field, operating on the most delicate parts of the human body. For the team here to outrank and outperform physican groups in much larger cities in Georgia, not to mention the country, is an outstanding achievement and recognition.

Congratulations to the physicians and their support teams of nurses, operating room assistants and staff for practicing such outstanding medicine in our community.
