There’s been a lot of talk about how the South Georgia Classic at Kinderlou Forest this week will prime the economic pump for Valdosta, Lowndes County, and all of South Georgia.
And for good reason. It will.
The golf tournament brings in players, caddies, fans, media, and more, which equals dollars in area hotels, restaurants, stores. Kinderlou Forest is part of the Web.com Tour which is a boost for the golf course as well as Valdosta-Lowndes County.
The South Georgia Classic is a boon to our region.
But economic purposes aren’t the only reason we’re lucky to have the tournament here.
It’s also a lot of fun to watch.
For the past few days, local players have been able to play with the pros in the Pro-Ams. Today, the pros take the course for the South Georgia Classic.
Golf represents big money because people love to play golf, talk golf, watch golf.
The tour is an opportunity for Valdosta golf fans to watch how the pros do it live during the next several days.
Whether you’re an old hand at the sport, or know little about it, the South Georgia Classic is an opportunity to see some fine play as well as boost our local involvement in the tour.
We should welcome the tour to town with our attendance, and demonstrate why Southern hospitality is another South Georgia classic.
