Thumbs up

-- — THUMBS UP: To Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. This week, the Military Order of the Purple Heart named Wiregrass the nation’s first Purple Heart Technical College in recognition of its dedication to providing programs for military personnel, veterans and their families.

THUMBS UP: To state extension agencies which celebrated 100 years of service this week. Locally, the extension service hosted a presentation for Congressman Austin Scott. Extension services have been vital to farmers, and given the region’s agricultural traditions and continuing industries, its contribution to South Georgia has been priceless.

THUMBS UP: To the reminder that football is never really too far away. This week, Valdosta State University Blazers began spring practice. VSU’s first scrimmage game is set for March 31, with a second scrimmage set for April 5 ... then only about four months after that, it will be football season again!

THUMBS UP: To Air Force Lt. Col. David Rayman. The 75th Fighter Squadron commander recently logged 3,000 flight hours in the A-10C Thunderbolt II. A rare feat. In presenting a Moody Air Force Base story on his accomplishment in The Times, it’s good to see the face and know the name of one of the many pilots who cross our South Georgia skies. Congratulations on 3,000 and thank you for your service.
