Celebrate VSU Homecoming this week

The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — The Valdosta State University Blazers are our hometown college football team. Although the high schools generally garner more attention and have longer traditions dating back decades, the Blazers are very deserving of the community’s support, and especially the support of the school’s alumni.

If you attended VSU, you should consider becoming more involved with the activities at the university and this week is a great week to start. The Homecoming game is Saturday, with the Blazers taking on Delta State at 3 p.m.

Tickets are still available online at www.vstateblazers.com for the matchup, which is always a great game to watch.

Tailgating activities will be going on all that day, the Blazer Walk takes place at 1:30 p.m., and that night will be a big Step Show, sponsored by the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at 7 p.m. The fraternity is also sponsoring a blood drive all week with the American Red Cross.

On Thursday, you can attend the big Pep Rally at 7 p.m. on the P.E. Complex, and on Friday, you can play in the golf tournament at Valdosta Country Club. Friday night, the annual Homecoming Parade will start at 6 p.m. on Patterson St. at the intersection with Woodrow Wilson, and will end at Brookwood Drive.

The students are fired up and the community should be fired up too! Get involved this week to support our hometown university and its Homecoming.
