THUMBS UP: To all of the firefighters, law-enforcement officers and emergency workers who responded to the series of explosions and fire this week in the Azalea East Industrial Park. More than 100 firefighters arrived to fight the blaze, including dozens of off-duty Valdosta Fire Department firefighters. Emergency personnel evacuated a mile radius around the industrial park site. While others were moved away, emergency workers continued arriving at the scene.
THUMBS UP: To Mike Messer. The South Georgia truck driver learned a man at his church, Jose Paz, needed a kidney. Through prayer, Messer decided to offer one of his kidneys to a man who was an acquaintance but is now a close friend. Messer made a great sacrifice to save and better another person’s life.
THUMBS UP: To Wiregrass Georgia Technical College for all it does for the community. This week, Christine Leclerc-Sherling was featured in a story on how she loves teaching psychology to her students; another story highlighted sponsors and leaders who continue making Wiregrass a regional success. Through dedicated instructors, generous sponsors and dynamic leaders, Wiregrass will continue making successes in the lives of its students.
