Thumbs up, thumbs down

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — THUMBS UP: To Heather Epley. The Pine Grove Elementary School teacher was named Lowndes County School System’s Teacher of the Year this week. Congratulations to her and to all of the county’s individual school teachers of the year and best wishes for the coming return to the classroom.

THUMBS UP: To Moody Air Force Base personnel who followed procedures and safely landed an HH-60G helicopter in the Hahira Middle School football field earlier this week. An instrument light indicated a potential mechanical issue with the helicopter, and the pilot brought the bird down for an unscheduled landing.

THUMBS UP: To the Rev. J.D. Martin. For the past decade, Martin and his wife, Ethel, have led the Inner City Life Steps Camp each summer. This camp takes kids from the city for a couple of days to the 4-H Camp in Lake Park. It gives them different and positive perspectives on many aspects of life.

THUMBS DOWN: We give this reluctantly but it is to some of the posters on The Valdosta Daily Times website. The Times reserves the right to edit and decline readers’ comments on stories. The majority of the deleted readers’ comments either use profanity, wish death or physical harm on a named person, or commit anonymous libel against a specific person. Anonymously or not, if you cuss someone, threaten them, or write derogatory things about them, we will not run your post.
