-- — THUMBS UP: To the new city officials sworn into office this week. Throughout South Georgia, new names and faces joined various city councils. May your respective cities benefit from your service.

THUMBS UP: To the First Tee program which incorporates golf in the classroom. Using golf as a tool, participating South Georgia schools can help students better understand and adopt important life skills.

The First Tee program focuses on nine core values and nine healthy habits. The core values

are honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect,

confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment. The core healthy habits are

energy, play, safety, vision, mind, family, friends, school and community.

THUMBS UP: To Southeastern Federal Credit Union. This week, as students prepared to return to classes from the holiday break, Southeastern donated 150 boxes of paper to five Valdosta and Lowndes County schools.

THUMBS UP: To area organizations that provided shelter during this week’s cold spell. Temperatures reached sustained lows in the region, below freezing for portions of two days. The shelters offered warm places for people who had no other alternatives but the cold.
