All we need for Christmas

VALDOSTA — As Christmas approaches, you can give the gift that can save lives. It’s as simple as giving blood. Traditionally, blood donations decrease during the holiday months of November, December and January. With holiday activities, trips, shopping, and more, fewer donors make time for giving blood, according to the American Red Cross.

To encourage blood donations throughout the coming days and weeks, the America Red Cross Valdosta chapter offers a free Red Cross long-sleeved T-shirt, Dec. 24-31. In addition, those donating at the blood donation center will receive Dec. 9-14: The Mix Frozen Yogurt free 8 oz. yogurt coupon; Dec. 16-21: Chance to win a Jimmy John’s gift card.

The Valdosta chapter hopes to collect 650 pints of blood during December to offset potential shortfalls.

This is a gift most of us can give, rich or poor, young or old. It is the gift of blood, the gift of life.

No one wants to be in an accident any time of year, but it is good to know that if someone we love is in a wreck, they will receive what they need.

The American Red Cross’ Valdosta Blood Services Center is located at 2517 Bemiss Road. More information: (229) 241-1141.
