The Valdosta Daily Times
Old isn’t old anymore. Old is something that most people today don’t think they will ever be. Old is always at least 10 years or more from where you are today, if you are middle aged, and even farther away if you’re still in your youth. Under 30. Or 40.
It’s not just because people are living longer due to medical advances. It’s that people are LIVING longer. They are working later in life or beginning new careers at an age when 50 years ago, they’d have been doing little more than sitting in a rocking chair. People are more active and staying that way. Skydiving, cycling, boating, traveling, inventing, working, writing, and much much more. Today’s senior citizens bear little resemblance to those of yesterday, and the times are keeping up with them.
In honor of the newly young, active seniors, the VDT is hosting the annual Senior Living Showcase Saturday at the Rainwater Conference Center. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., people of all ages are welcome to come browse the dozens of vendor’s booths, network, and learn more about services and opportunities available to those in their still active but more mature years.
As Mark Twain said, “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
For those who don’t mind, visit the Senior Showcase Saturday and enjoy yourself.
