Bringing Broadway to Valdosta

The Valdosta Daily Times

-- — The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts has always touted itself as a program that brings a touch of Broadway to Valdosta. Through the years, it has presented nationally touring, professional Broadway musicals among other shows.

Tonight, the Presenter Series kicks off its 2013-14 season with the Broadway Boys.

This show presents six performers singing everything from Broadway standards to more recent shows. The criteria is if the song has been included in a Broadway show, it can be included in a Broadway Boys show. In addition, the performers regularly perform on Broadway when they are not members of the rotating crew of 24 Broadway Boys performers.

The Presenter Series will host two more productions this season. They are “The Addams Family,” a live musical based on the creepy crew, on Nov. 14; and the return of the New Shanghai Circus on Feb. 14, 2014.

For many years, the arts center has scheduled the Presenter Series shows. These shows have become long-standing traditions with some families keeping the same seats year after year through their season tickets. Others discover a full season they would like to see each year. Some may love to see one or two shows while having no interest in the other productions.

We commend the arts center board and staff for its continued efforts in bringing the Presenter Series to life each season.

The Valdosta Daily Times remains a proud sponsor of the Presenter Series, along with First State Bank & Trust; Georgia Power Company; IPG Architects and Planners; Langdale Vallotton, LLP; Dr. James Sinnott & Dr. Edward Fricker families; Stifel, WALB.
