VALDOSTA — THUMBS UP: To Valdosta Police Lt. Tomas Chavarria and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Deputy Donald Newham, who were named their respective agencies’ officers of the year Thursday night during the Rotary Club’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner. The lawmen were recognized for their contributions to their respective departments and to the community.

THUMBS UP: To the Rotary Club for another successful Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner. Hundreds attended the dinner which recognizes area law-enforcement while also raising money to help these officers in need. The event is a way for the community to thank the officers, but we want to say thank you, too, to James Dominey, who spearheaded the annual dinner, and to the Rotary Club for making it a success.

THUMBS UP: To Wiregrass Georgia Technical College for the annual Gathering of Eagles. Featuring author, television/radio personality Bill Boggs and other business leaders, the event shared secrets for success with area business people. The Gathering has become a must-attend event for people wishing to build their businesses and increase their successes.

THUMBS UP: To Valdosta State University Blazers Baseball for winning 10 games in a row for a perfect season so far. The Blazers are scheduled to play again, with a double-header starting at 2 p.m. today, at No. 2 West Florida.
