The Valdosta Daily Times
Words don’t do the Shanghai Circus justice. We can write about the non-stop action, the colorful costumes, the thrilling stunts, the hoop diving, the plate spinning, the leaping, and constant movement of these trained acrobats from China, but you have to see them to understand the full family-friendly spectacle of the New Shanghai Circus.
Those who attended the circus’ first Valdosta stop five years ago understand the full beauty and excitement of the performance. That last audience’s enthusiasm is part of the reason why the Shanghai Circus returns this week with an all-new troupe of performers by popular demand.
The circus is the third and final production for this season’s Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts Presenter Series.
Each year, the Presenter Series brings a set of professional, touring shows to Valdosta. This season included the Broadway Boys and “The Addams Family” musical. Typically, a Presenter Series season includes four shows, but organizers reduced the number to three this season to bring the popular “Addams Family” to Valdosta.
The Presenter Series offers Valdosta audiences a taste of Broadway and Vegas-style shows without ever having to leave South Georgia.
We commend the arts center board and staff for its continued efforts in bringing the Presenter Series to life each season. The Valdosta Daily Times remains a proud sponsor of the Presenter Series, along with First State Bank & Trust; Georgia Power Company; IPG Architects and Planners; Langdale Vallotton, LLP; Dr. James Sinnott & Dr. Edward Fricker families; Stifel; WALB.
The New Shanghai Circus performs 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, Mathis City Auditorium, 2300 N. Ashley St. More information: Visit the arts center at 527 N. Patterson St.; or the website, www.turnercenter.org; or call (229) 247-2787.
