The Valdosta Daily Times
During the next several hours and throughout today and Wednesday, you will likely hear about the many things you will need and the many things you should do to prepare for and endure a winter storm with the possibility of sleet, snow and ice for South Georgia.
— If driving, take supplies in case of an emergency: warm clothes, a blanket, charged cell phone, water, flares, flashlight, nutritious snacks.
— Reduce your speed.
— Don’t slam on the brakes, but decelerate before stopping.
— Leave extra space between your vehicle and other vehicles. If sliding on an icy road, take your foot off the accelerator.
— Such winter conditions are rare in South Georgia, so remember especially if you’re from some place where it snows regularly in great accumulations, an inch of snow here can be paramount to emergency conditions.
These are just a few important reminders for the expected winter storm coming our way, but the most important thing each of us can keep is our cool.
Yes, remain calm and apply common sense. Do not panic but be aware of the possibility of adverse conditions predicted for Valdosta-Lowndes County and the surrounding areas through Wednesday.
If there is a power outage Wednesday, it should only be temporary. All of these conditions will only be temporary. Temperatures are expected to rise again by late Wednesday and continue rising later in the week.
With a little planning, a little precaution, and no panicking, we’ll manage this storm.
