The Valdosta Daily Times
Today and during this past weekend, an expected 1,500 to 2,000 visitors are arriving in Valdosta. They are coming from throughout Georgia to attend the 2013 Georgia Missionary Baptist Convention Congress of Christian Education, which runs today through Friday, July 22-26.
Valdosta became the annual conference’s host city during a visit to last year’s conference in Dublin, Ga. Pastor William C. Morgan of Morning Star Baptist Church and Pastor Edgar Roberts of Thomas Chapel Baptist Church attended the 2012 conference in Dublin. They noticed that Valdosta has as much to offer as Dublin. Morgan and Roberts prayed on the possibility of bringing the event here for the 2013 conference. Organizers visited Valdosta and found that the region has enough hotels, restaurants and other activities to support the event.
They will gather for more than 70 religious courses throughout the coming days at Valdosta High School. At 7 p.m. today, participants will gather in the Valdosta High School Performing Arts Center for a public welcome program and musical. At 10 p.m. today, Tuesday and Wednesday, they will gather at Morning Star Baptist Church for a series of late-night worship services.
Throughout the week, they will stay in Valdosta hotels.
They will eat in area restaurants. They will shop area stores.
Area residents can meet them at the conference, too. Area residents can attend the public events, and even register and pay for the courses by visiting gmbcofgeorgia.org
The Times welcomes the conference attendees to town and we would urge everyone to welcome them to Valdosta.
