Helping The Haven help others

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — The Haven hosts its 16th Annual Fundraiser from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, Mathis City Auditorium, 2300 N. Ashley St. The event includes a silent and live auction. Heavy hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, and casual attire. Music presented by Sold at Auction.

Tickets are $15 per person, or $25 per couple, and may be purchased at the door; or by calling (229) 241-7047.

Proceeds benefit The Haven Battered Women’s Shelter & Rape Crisis Center.

The Haven has been providing these services since 1988. The Haven provides an oasis for abused women and their children. The Haven helps people escape violent situations then build new lives.

Given its 25-year history, it’s possible that The Haven has helped someone you know whether you know it or not. The Haven keeps its clients’ names and situations confidential for reasons of security and privacy.

So, it is possible that The Haven started a neighbor on a different path, helped a child who is now an adult escape from a violent home, aided a co-worker who broke the cycle of domestic abuse and won a new life. And you may never know.

Attending the annual Haven Fundraiser is always fun but its main purpose is helping people escape violent situations, by helping people embark on new and better lives.
