The Valdosta Daily Times
THUMBS UP: To those who have already voted. To those who haven’t, Election Day is Nov. 5. There’s still time to become educated about the issues and candidates, and go to your assigned precinct Tuesday. If you don’t vote, you allow others to make decisions about your leadership and the community’s future. And every vote counts, especially in the smaller municipality elections, where city seats are often decided by just a handful of votes.Your vote is important so make it count.
THUMBS UP: To James Goolsby. The former Valdosta school superintendent participated in a vintage airplane event last week in Thomasville. For many participants, it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to fly in the World War II-era Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. For Goolsby, it was an opportunity to relive and share memories. Goolsby served as a B-17 pilot during World War II. We thank him for his service to the country in war and to generations of students in community education.
THUMBS UP: To Stephen Drew. TitleTown can add a World Series champion to its ranks. Drew, who grew up in Lowndes County, plays for the Boston Red Sox. During the team's World Series-winning Game 6 against the St. Louis Cardinals, Drew hit a solo home run. Congratulations!
THUMBS UP: To Chris Pope. The Valdosta State University Blazers linebacker pushed past VSU legend and Atlanta Falcon Jessie Tuggle's Blazer record for number of tackles last week. Pope has recorded 343 tackles to date and is just 25 short of Larry Dean's record. Pope and the Blazers are scheduled to play again today.
