The Valdosta Daily Times
Valdosta State University is hosting a week of activities for President William McKinney’s inauguration, with an emphasis on student achievements and programs. McKinney’s official Investiture Ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Friday morning on the lawn of West Hall, with numerous activities for students, faculty and the public planned daily.
One of the events this week is being held today, giving you the opportunity to not only celebrate the inaugural event but also give the gift of life by donating blood.
A Southeastern Community Blood Center Blood Drive will be held at the VSU University Center on Patterson St. today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Participants who donate today will receive a wellness check, a cholesterol screening, and a special Presidential Inauguration t-shirt.
Healthy individuals over 16, weighing in at 110 pounds or more, should be able to donate. Specific criteria for those who have lived in or visited countries overseas and other donor criteria can be found on the SCBC website, www.scbcinfo.org.
The organization has issued an urgent plea for O Negative blood donations, but all donors are needed and welcome at this time. Those with O Negative blood are universal donors, as their blood can be used for any patient, regardless of blood type. It is essential in emergency situations where this is no time to type the patient’s blood.
If you have the time and are an eligible donor, please consider going by the University Center today. You could be the one who needs an emergency donation one day, so help others while you can. Give the gift of life.
