They came with a goal. They came with an agenda. Tonight, they will celebrate their successes.
For the past 10 weeks, participants of the YMCA’s Team Lean have gathered weekly to weigh themselves to see how much they have gained by how much weight they have lost.
Now in its fifth year, Team Lean is a weight-loss competition encouraging teams and individuals to exercise effectively and utilize proper nutrition for weight loss.
As it has grown in popularity each year, the YMCA has added more to the competition, including Valdosta State University exercise physiology students to teach exercise classes and South Georgia Medical Center registered nurses to teach health classes.
This year, the Y added free personal training, along with the Winnersville Challenge, where competitors could register for the Valdosta Wildcats or the Lowndes Vikings, receive a shirt for their respective team, and try to outdo the other team.
The final weigh-in was last week, March 27. Tonight, an award ceremony will announce who won by losing the most weight. But with people exercising more, eating better meals and living healthier lives, everybody wins.
