The Valdosta Daily Times
Coach David Dean and Valdosta State University Blazers football return to the field this weekend. The Blazers return big, again, as the National Division II champions.
They will likely return with a growing fan base. Seems each year, more people are catching Blazer fever. Fans are coming to love the Thursday night games and the Saturday afternoon contests on Cleveland Field at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
VSU football is developing its own traditions — traditions of championship excellence that fits squarely into the football and winning prominence that earned Valdosta and Lowndes County the nickname of Winnersville and the national prestige of ESPN’s TitleTown.
This week, for the opener, the season starts out of town, in Macon.
At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, a VSU Alumni Reception is scheduled for the Tic Toc Banquet Room in Macon. At 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, the Blazer Tailgate begins.
At 2 p.m., kick-off at Henderson Field where the VSU Blazers take on Fort Valley State.
VSU Alumni Relations seems to capture the spirit of this first game: “The National Title Defense Starts in Macon.”
Hopefully, the Blazers will continue defending and competing for a new national championship throughout the coming season. Hopefully, more and more people will come watch them play.
