If forecasts are correct, South Georgians are waking to lower-than-freezing temperatures this morning.
If you use space heaters, clear an area for them; don’t use space heaters near piles of clothing or papers. Do not leave space heaters unattended. Remember to turn them off before leaving the residence or even the room.
Sadly, each year, as the temperatures drop, the number of residential fires rise. These fires are often caused by poorly kept furnaces or improper use of heaters.
A small amount of preparation may prevent the tragedies of families left homeless.
Folks should be prepared to let outdoor pets inside. Outside plants should be covered to protect them from frost. Turn on water spigots to keep pipes from freezing.
Before going outside today, dress warmly. If you’re warming your car prior to driving, do so in a well-ventilated area.
Prepare to scrape windshields clear of frozen dew.
A few steps of preparation can keep South Georgians safe as we get a cold taste of winter.
