Rant and Raves for Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Berrien High School Regiment: We love you and we are so proud of you!

Is anyone else confused? How is it that SGMC can’t afford to give employees raises, Christmas bonuses, etc., but can afford to purchase Radiology Associates and build a new parking deck?

First I want to congratulate our Vikings, players and coaches. They are not professional athletes and we can’t hold them to those standards but I feel until we become more creative in our play calling, we will continue to struggle against better teams. We ask small players to make big holes and our offense is as predictable as a clock.

Once again in a public forum finding solutions, Floyd Rose disses white people. The real problem is the glorification of violence in movies and music along with the programs on TV. Our children, regardless of race, are desensitized by movies that show violent solutions to solving problems.

My wife and I attend many community events: sports and music. We sing the Star Spangled Banner. Few others join us. At the last VSO symphony performance, the entire audience sang at the top of their lungs. Felt great.

I'm wondering how many thousands we will spend to combat violence in Valdosta when a $12 belt at an early age will do better.

After reading the article on the violence forum, I am still confused as to why the community is at fault for all of the black on black violence that is happening. No one blames the parents that fail to teach their children right from wrong. How is that the community’s fault? Behavior of any kind is taught at home and the parents should be held accountable for their children's behavior.

To see city leaders get in the paper blaming others for not listening to their ideas about crime prevention is not solving anything.
