Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009

What is sovereign immunity? It's when a tree that is on county property falls on your property and ruins your fence. Which also means that the county will not be responsibille for repairs. Because apparently I should have told them there was a dead tree on county property. Uh, excuse me for not being a tree surgeon. From now on I will be sure to inspect all trees not on my property. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all get sovereign immunity?

Why are staff members being furloughed, funding slashed, positions going unfilled, field trips canceled? However travel, lodging and conference expenses are sacred. Does it really make sense to send a dozen-plus people to the same conference year after year when there aren't funds to purchase new technology items? Why can't that money be spent to purchase the things that are needed on a daily basis and were promised last year, but were deleted due to lack of funds?

Thanks so much to the lady in the dark green Lexus who paid for my sweet tea in line at Macadoos. Due to some medical problems, I have been on a lot of medicines that make me not want to get up. I was getting the tea to boost my spirits but you did that more than you know with your act of kindness.

Picking up pecans on an "empty lot" is stealing unless you have the property owner's permission. My neighbor saw a woman parked in my driveway picking up pecans in my front yard last year. She called me at work. I called the sheriff's department and the woman went to jail.

I work with Officer Hankerson and he is a great officer. I'm sorry I wasn't at work that day to help you because I was on my furlough brought on by the state. I'm sorry it took this but I pray that Georgians and people in Atlanta see the importance of staffing their prisons. I hope it doesn't take a death to see this.

I'm so glad that the Valdosta High School Marchin' Cats won the band competition. I'd hate to see our band director get fired as well for not winning.

To the ranter complaining about me and my spaghetti straps: What I wear on my body is my business, regardless if you personally find it inappropriate. If you find what I wear to be not to your liking, stop looking at me and move along. I find your church outfit to be inappropriate as well — all fancy and tacky. You don't see me complaining about it in the newspaper.
