What We Think: Thumbs up

THUMBS UP: To the Georgia Department of Transportation for completing the work on the intersections at Northside Drive and Bemiss Road, and St. Augustine Road and River Street. The new turn lanes are working as intended and the roads are safer for motorists.

THUMBS UP: To everyone participating in the Ray City two-mile walk and gospel concert today. The events are part of the small town’s 10-month-long Centennial Celebration. Ray City was incorporated in 1909 and has come a long way from its humble beginnings.

THUMBS UP: To those parents who participated in the Valdosta City School System’s first Parent Summit. The event featured a series of workshops designed to help parents better help their children achieve success in school. Research has proven — again and again — that parents who are involved have a positive impact on their child’s education.

THUMBS UP: To the newly chartered Azalea City Quota Club for partnering with Moody Air Force Base to deliver school supplies to children in Afghanistan. As Maj. Anthony L. Wright told the club, “The smallest things make a big difference in the lives of these kids.”

THUMBS UP: To all of the Valdosta High School students recently recognized for their academic achievements. Mary Macheski-Preston and Jordan P. Rickman were named National Merit Scholarship program semifinalists. Twenty-two students were presented AP Scholar awards for their performances on Advanced Placement program examinations.
