Rant & Rave for Monday, Aug. 25, 2008
Thanks to Advanced Hearing Care and the VDT for sponsoring the hearing aid contest. My husband was not selected, but sharing with him that I had entered an essay about his hearing loss allowed us to at least discuss the possibility of him seeing if his hearing problems could be helped.
Yes, 100 Black Men does an admirable job with their money raising for various good causes. I've been to their downtown barbecue event, and of course there are black and white attendees. This is because people are not as racist as some try to make everyone out to be. You can thank the NAACP and the ACLU and people who have nothing better to do than stir up hard feelings when we all would get along great otherwise.
I see nothing wrong with S.L. Mason's blue lines and quiet lunchrooms and no, I'm not a teacher — just a parent. Most schools these days are borderline bedlam during lunchtime and changing of classes. And once again, schools are called upon to teach children the basic life skill of how to behave. If parents are going to send their kids off to school without having taught them how to conduct themselves properly, then thank God for blue lines and quiet lunchrooms — for those of us who have taught our kids how to behave.
With all this rain and wind, I guess those houses built by our tax dollars for our service men and women of Moody are now being utilized by the local wildlife! If something doesn't happen soon you can buy those for $20,000.
There are some home building contractors in the local area that should not be allowed to build. Their work is just getting by with the inspectors and they expect high dollar in return. They are the ones who give the rest of us contractors a bad reputation.
I agree with the ranter about teachers and cell phones. Add VMS PE teachers to the list of teachers who shouldn't be using cell phones during class time. My kid looks forward to PE. He gets tired of waiting for you to finish your personal phone calls. Most of these kids are good — they walk the green line, talk quietly during lunch, sit still in class. When they get to PE, they desperately want and need to let loose of their pent-up energy. Please — make your PE class fun and active.
If you don't like our schools, then send your child to a private school or move to another district. Your child's education is the most important thing, so you need to do what's best for your child. No matter what the cost may be for you. Otherwise stop complaining about our schools.
You possibly could have a TitleTown tag if you wanted to expend the energy necessary to approach the government of the state of Georgia to make it happen. You could do this if it is that important to you. If not, drop it because some of us don't care.
