Ken Gaskins

-- — Ken Gaskins, 73, of Naylor passed away on July 5, 2013 as a result of a brief battle with cancer. Ken was born Nov. 16, 1939 along the Alapha River in Berrien County, to Walter Tatem and Beatrice Hodge Gaskins. He grew up in both Georgia and Florida. He was a Baptist by faith. Ken was retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 511 Valdosta, Ga., after thirty four years. He was a volunteer Fireman in the Naylor Fire Department for 20 years. He was also a Naylor City Councilman for eight years; he and his wife Betty worked hard to help establish the playground in Naylor. Ken will be remembered for his compassion for others; when in need, he would help. He will be missed by all. He maintained his sense of humor to the end, but we rest in knowing he no longer labors to breath.

Ken married his wife Betty J. Harris on March 2, 1963. They have been married 50 years. They have two daughters, Valerie K. Sikes & Larry Fountain, Sr. of Howell, Ga., Rhonda L. Kelly and Matthew Kelly of Lake Park Rd.; four grandsons, James Kenneth Sikes and Nicole Armes, James Mitchell Farmer, Larry Wayne Fountain, Jr., and Thomas Brandon Bullard; one great-grandson, Caleb James Farmer and three great-granddaughters, Jaden Brooke Farmer, McKenzie Leigh Sikes and Morgan Jeanelle Sikes. He is also survived by three sisters, Betty and Roger Tumbleston of Eustis, Fla., Imo Jean and J.B. Smith of Sebring, Fla., Juanita Carmeron and Joe Reeves of Leesburg, Fla.; one brother, Lincoln and Janice Gaskins of Alapha, Ga.; five sisters-in-law, Sue Gaskins of Zolfo Springs, Fla., Gwen Gaskins of Wauchula, Fla., Christine Gaskins of N.C., Frances Gaskins, Betty Gaskins and Jeannie Gaskins all of Lake Placid, Fla.; as well as many, many nieces and nephews. Along with Ken’s parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eula Mae Brown and Emma Lois Adams; and six brothers, Brinston Gaskins, James Gaskins, Jesse Gaskins, Hubert Gaskins, Leo Gaskins & Denzil Gaskins.

The family of Ken Gaskins would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of South Georgia for their special care.

Funeral services for Mr. Gaskins will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Frazier officiating, Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery, Naylor, Ga.
