Ruby Mae Wheaton Jackson departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at 9:40 a.m. at South Georgia Medical Center.
Ruby was born June 1, 1938 in Harrisville, Miss. to Betty Mae McClinton Stokes and Willie Wheaton. She had two brothers (Frank Young, Jr. and Tilton Henry Young) and two sisters (Earlean Young and Odessa Rita Fowler-Thomas). Her mother, father and siblings preceded her in death. Ruby attended high school in Arkansas City, Ark. and after graduation moved to Greenville, Miss. Later, she met and married Tom Jackson. No children were born to this union, and Tom preceded her in death in 1996.
In 1967, Ruby and Tom moved to Valdosta, Ga., where she attended Valdosta Technical School graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Ruby went to work as an LPN at South Georgia Medical Center in 1969 where she remained employed until her retirement in 1998.
Ruby was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in December 2010.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children whom she raised: Edwin Thomas, Edwin Gadison, Shane Thomas, Lynca Thomas, and Jaxon Thomas; one great-great nephew Amari Spencer; two special sisters, Betty Young and Eula Mitchell; one special friend, Sarah Marshall; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3030 U.S. Highway 41 S. Bro. Thomas Hamilton, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Public viewing will be held today, from 2– 8 p.m. at the funeral home. — Stevens Funeral Home of Valdosta
