VALDOSTA — Mrs. Bonita Christian was born June 3, 1960 in Brooks County to Merlene Newsome and the late Rudolph Newsome. She departed this life on April 28, 2013.

She received her education in the Brooks County Public School System. At a young age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized and spent her latter years as a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church.  There she served as a singer in the adult choir and head of the pastor’s aide. She was also the secretary of the Voices of Triumph formerly known as the I Need Help Singers. She served as a missionary for Christ most of her life, resilient in any work she could do for God and anyone else.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband Jimmy Christian, two daughters, Tasha Mitchell and Lameshia Newsome (Alfred)  both of Quitman, GA ; three sisters, Diane Newsome (Ron), Debra Davis (Larry), Carol Newsome all of Quitman, GA, six brothers, Anthony Newsome (Juanita) of Savannah, GA,; Calvin Newsome(Lashonda) of Atlanta, GA ; Robert Newsome of Valdosta, GA; Tony Newsome of Altanta,GA; Kenneth Newsome(Alethia) of Madison, FL; Toye Newsome who preceded her in death; seven loving grandchildren Kanesha Mitchell, Breyawna Brinson, Sammie Brinson, Michael Mitchell, Myesha Mitchell, Alfred Arnold, and Ar’Manti Arnold all of Quitman, GA ; one sister in law, Janice Mitchell of Savannah, GA; seven brother-in-laws, Sam Christian(Gail) of Valdosta, GA; John Christian(Jackie) of Quitman, GA; Gary Christian(Stephanie) of Warner Robins, GA; Terrance Christian(Rebecca) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Robby Christian(Tawanna) of Quitman, GA;  Bobby Christian of Quitman, GA; Herbert Smith(Phyllis) of Valdosta, GA; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Zion Temple Church in Quitman, GA at 3:30 P.M. with Elder Warnell Parker, Pastor and Pastor Floyd Demps, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements. stevensmcgheefuneralhome.com
