Pastor Robert M. Jones Sr., 79, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla.
He was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Valdosta, a son of the late Arthur and Lillie Mae Seay Jones. Pastor Jones honorably served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a TSgt. He had also served on the Lowndes County School Board, and was Pastor of Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church, Quitman.
He is survived by his wife, Addie Jones of Valdosta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gloria L. and Michael Warren of Valdosta, and Michelle Jones Anderson of Nashville, Tenn.; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert M. and Patricia Jones of Petersburg, Va., Anthony G. Jones of Long Island, N.Y., Kevin and Karen Jones of Ala., and Shawn Jones of Nashville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; five sisters; three brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Pastor Jones will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Morningstar Baptist Church, 1051 Howell Road, Valdosta, with the Rev. James Huewitt officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service.
