Robert Oneal Allison

-- — Robert Oneal Allison, 74, of Tyler, Texas passed away suddenly on Thursday, Nov. 28. He was born on Nov.14, 1939 in Valdosta to Gordon and Mozelle Allison. He grew up in Valdosta. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He was a retired truck driver.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. While living in Bakersfield, Calif., he became acquainted with Merle Haggard and was a huge fan. He learned most of his recordings word-for-word and did a splendid job of imitating “The Hag.”

He is survived by his companion of seventeen years, Shirley James, and her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren, all of Tyler Texas. Other survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and Jim Hamann of Warner Robbins, Ga. and Diedra Harbison of Tampa, Fla.; three granddaughters, Franchesca, Stephanie and Danielle; one grandson, Robert Blackburn; one brother, Stan Allison of Tyler, Texas; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Estelle and Art Akerson of San Antonio, Texas, Betty Reid and Gene of Lake Park, Ga., Linda (Tammy) Gay of Valdosta, Wanda and Ricky Hawke of Unadilla, Ga.; special nieces and nephews, Kim and Danny Moss of Valdosta, Gambrel and Patsy Boyd of Ala., Greg (the son he never had,” and Sam Gay of Lake Park, Ga.; numerous other nieces and nephews, many friends and his “four-legged son,” Trouble.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Mozelle Allison, a daughter, Betty Jo Harbison, a sister, Ruby Nell Boyd, two nieces, Tamara Williams and Sandy Yoho. He is also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Thelma Harbison of Tampa, Fla. Per his wishes, he will be cremated. No services will be held.
