The Valdosta Daily Times
Eleanor Frances Parrish, 95, died March 5, 2013, at the Southern Senior Living Center in Adel. She was born at home at 317 South Parrish Avenue in Adel on Jan. 2, 1918, to the late Guy Ashley and Ethel Dunn Parrish. She graduated from the Sparks Adel High School in 1934, and from Brenau College in 1938, with a bachelor of arts degree.
After working as a bookkeeper during World War II for several businesses in Adel, she moved to New York City to study interior design at the New York School of Interior Design, where she graduated and worked at Lord & Taylor, serving clientele in the custom furniture and design fields.
Eleanor briefly returned to Adel in 1958, to care for her aging parents when their health deteriorated and returned permanently in 1962, when her father’s health failed again. She continued working in the interior design business in Valdosta and opened her own business in her home in 1966.
She was a member of the Adel Presbyterian Church, the Cook County Historical Society and the American Association of Interior Designers. She also worked as a volunteer for the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.
Miss Parrish’s life was punctuated with travel, both domestic and international. She attributed her longevity to eating a healthy diet and doing so in moderation.
Affectionately known as “Aunt Anna” to relatives and friends, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Parrish Twomey.
She is survived by her niece, Julia (Julius) Ariail; and nephew, Bill (Sonya) Twomey; her great-nieces and nephews, James G. (Meghan) Connell III, Ashley C. (Keith) Meade, Elizabeth A.
