Mr. Ralph J. Griffis, 82, of Hahira, Ga., passed away Sunday July 28, 2013 at his home. He was born in Cecil, Ga., on April 28, 1931 to the late Rufus and Effie Lewis Griffis. He was a lifelong resident of Cook County and a retired pharmacist. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Adel and was very active with the Gideons. He also served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Army.
Mr. Griffis is survived by his wife, Billie Dean L. Griffis of Hahira, Ga.,; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sonja and Candler Bennett, Jr. of Hahira, and Penny Rutland of Lenox, Ga.,; four grandchildren: Candler Bennett, III and Mackenzie Bennett, both of Valdosta, Ga.,, Alana Rutland of Lenox, Ga., and Haley and Nathan Bassett of Hahira, Ga.,; and a sister, Janelle Nichols of Adel, Ga.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, July 29, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel. The funeral service will take place Tuesday July 30, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Adel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bill Marlette officiating and Mr. Ray Alley providing the eulogy. Interment will follow at Fellowship Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in honor of Mr. Griffis to the Gideons (c/o Jesse Henderson, 4586 Massee Post Road, Adel, Ga., 31620).
