Funeral service celebrating the life of Irene Greene, age 85, of Newark, OH, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Family of Faith Community Church, with Pastor Theodis Foy and Pastor Recoir Puryear will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Greene died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 27, 1927, in Quitman, to the late Jonas Golden, Sr. and Surilla Grant. Mrs. Greene was a member of Mt. Zion Holy Union Church of God. She was an ordained minister, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, plants and flowers. Above all she loved God and her family.
In addition to her parents (Surilla Grant-Manning and Jonas Golden), Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Greene, Sr., a son, Michael Greene, Sr., a daughter, Deborah Sue Greene; two brothers, Joseph Manning, Jr and Bobby Manning, and two in the Golden Family, two sisters, Unjerene Hancock and one in the Golden Family, two brothers-in-law, Elijah McKinney Jr, and Bennie Hancock, two sisters-in-law, Anne Carnegie and Betty Manning.
Survivors include her children, Henry Greene, Jr. of Sandusky, Walter Greene, Sr. of Newark, Lindsey Greene of Reedsville, Curtis Greene, Gregory Greene, and Cecil Greene, all of Newark, Jerlene Greene of Atlanta, GA, and Cassandra (Gregory) Williams of Newark; 33 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman Carnegie, sisters, Mattie McKinney and Mildred Roundtree. She leaves to cherish her memories many nieces, great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Before moving away, she also leaves her devoted church family, Tridestone Holiness Church.
