Frederick Ashley Stephenson Sr.

VALDOSTA — Frederick Ashley Stephenson Sr., 69, of Hahira, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at his residence. He was born on July 9, 1943, in Valdosta to the late Willie Woodrow Stephenson and Ethel Lee Daniels Stephenson. Mr. Stephenson owned and operated Fred Stephenson Construction Company and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Gunsaulus Stephenson of Hahira; one son, Fred Stephenson Jr. of Sand Hill; two daughters and one son-in-law, Belinda and Buie Griner of Nashville, Ga., and Victoria Lynn Southerland of Hahira; eight grandchildren, Ashley Stephenson III, Jessere Stephenson, Dustin Beach, Stephen (Brandie) Griner, Brittany Griner, Heather Lee Southerland, Amber Naomi Southerland and Tracy Duane Southerland II; three great-grandsons, Adam Stephenson, Grayson Stephenson and Hank Stephenson; one brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Sandra Stephenson of Lake Park; one sister and brother-in-law, Crystal and Warren Halterman of Clay City, Ky., sister-in-law, June Stephenson of Valdosta; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Debbie Gunsaulus of Orange Park, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stephenson was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bobby Stephenson and E.L. “Dink” Stephenson; half brother, Woody Stephenson Jr.; and half sister, Francis Asbell.

Special thanks to Betty, Michelle and Lynn of Grace Hospice. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, 101 Northside Drive, Valdosta, GA.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Bussey officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed online at — Carson McLane Funeral Home
