L.V. Vann

VALDOSTA — L.V. Vann, 89, of Lake Park, died on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born on Dec. 30, 1924 in Branford, Fla., to the late George and Etta Jackson Grinstead. She retired from the Montgomery County School System in Silver Springs, Md., as a Media Center Consultant after 25 years of service. She was an avid reader and was a lifelong advocate for literacy and education. She enjoyed working in her garden and was totally devoted to her family. Mrs. Vann was a member of the Clyattville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son and his fiancée, George Vann of Lake Park and Gloria Addison of Columbia, SC.; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five sisters and a brother-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Blanton of Clyattville, Mrs. Ruth Elder Sheffield and Mrs. Christine Lane both of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Betty Jo Kight of Branford, Fla., Mrs. Wanda Jane and Mr. Arnold O’Steen of Lake City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mona Lee Grinstead of Branford, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lonnie Vann and two brothers, Columbus Grinstead and James Duncan Grinstead. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Mrs. Vann’s caregivers, Lillie Hill and Carolyn Green.

A graveside service for Mrs. L.V. Vann will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 3 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery in Branford, Fla. with the Rev. Bob Ellis and the Rev. Mollie Danner officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 12 Noon at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park.
