Dr. Oscar Enrique Aguero Sr., M.D., 83, of Tavernier, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2013, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 1301 West Flagler St., Miami, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to La Liga Contra el Cancer, (305) 856-4914, as well as St. Judes Hospital for Children.
Dr. Aguero was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Camaque, Cuba to Oscar Aguero and Matilde Rodriguez. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Havana in Havana, Cuba in 1956.
In 1955, he married Margarita Loret de Mola of Camaque, Cuba. They were married for 54 years. Dr. Aguero immigrated to the United States in 1964, with his family. He completed his Orthopedic Residence at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn., in 1972, and opened his practice in Valdosta the same year. He practiced in Valdosta for 23 years, retiring to Tavernier, Fla., in 1995. He was an avid family man and boater and enjoyed all things having to do with the ocean.
Dr. Aguero is survived by his wife, Margarita Aguero of Tavernier, Fla.; two sons, Dr. Oscar Aguero Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Valdosta; Dr. Alfred Aguero and his wife, Carol of Moultrie, Ga.; his daughter, Maggie Dunlap and her husband Sterling of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Nicole and Sterling Dunlap, Bowen Aguero, Anna Aguero Davis and her husband Franky and Haley and Kimsey Aguero.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Matilde Aguero.
