Patricia Ann Carroll Smith

-- — Patricia Ann Carroll Smith, 78, of Valdosta died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Valdosta on Sept. 10, 1934 to the late Harry and Nell Roberson Carroll and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. Patsy was a member of the First United Methodist Church and widely known as the “Wildcat Lady”. She graduated from Valdosta High School and the University of Georgia and taught art at Valdosta High School for 40 years and Valwood School for the past 15 years. Patsy was a dedicated and loving teacher who cared deeply for her “cherubs.” Patsy was influential and had a major impact on each student’s life. Her family was her greatest love and joy.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Bush Smith, Jr.; her son, Tom Bush Smith, III; four grandchildren, Tom Bush Smith, IV and wife, Sarah of Ormond Beach, Fla., Trinity Nell Sumner, Chance M. Smith, Patricia Ann Sumner all of Valdosta; four great-grandchildren, Lilyana Lynn Smith, Gabrielle Grace Smith, Burkeley Bush Smith, Chrisily Cate Smith all of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and wide extended family. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ginny Smith Sumner and a son-in-law, Trent Roger Sumner.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Moon officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 220 North Patterson Street, Valdosta, Ga. 31602.
