Bernetha McCray

VALDOSTA — Ms. Bernetha McCray was born on June 8, 1955 to the late James Wells and the late Bernetha Paschal in Ocilla, Ga.

Her passion and love for children and learning was shown majority of her life. She began as a child care provider at River Street and Over the Rainbow Child Care Centers for many years. She received her Master’s Degree in early childhood from Valdosta State University and  was also a graduate of Valdosta Technical College. Upon graduation, Ms. Mcray was employed by Southeast Elementary School where she faithfully served for 14 years until her retirement. She was also a devoted and loving single mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Ms. Bernetha McCray passed this life on Feb. 7, 2014.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving daughter: Tracy (Cedric) McCray Barnes of Fitzgerald; a grandson: Antonio Terrell McCray of Warner Robins; her great-granddaughter: Regan Camille McCray of Hahira; sisters: Judy Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Pamela McClain of Lake Wells, Fla., Darlene Yong of Boston, Mass., Durinda Wells of Lake Wells, Fla., Kimberly Persaud of Winter Haven, Fla., Janice Chapman of Lake Wells, Fla., and Maureener Austin of Tampa, Fla.; brothers: Charles Anthony Paschal of Valdosta, Min. James Wells Jr. of Lake Wells, Fla., Darryl  Wells Sr. of New Orleans, and Eric Harris of Ft. Pierce; Devoted caregivers: Samantha Walden, Mike Seward, Valerie M. Williams, and Angela Fuller, all of Valdosta; special niece and nephew: Tameka James and Charles Paschal Jr.; devoted god children: Shannon Golphin-Smith of Warner Robins, LaShonda Merritt of Valdosta; and a host of other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. John Manning is Pastor and Min. James Wells will officiate. Burial to follow at Harrington Rest Cemetery. — Final rites were entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home.
