Lonnie Raymond Cason

-- — Lonnie Raymond Cason, 94, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Lakehaven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Born in Adel to the late Martin Franklin and Emma Jane Smith Cason, he had been a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Cason was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and fought in the Northern Africa Theatre of Operations. After the war, he briefly worked at Vallotton‚s Dairy before going to machine school. He was a skilled machinist by trade and retired from Valdosta Machine Shop in the early 1970’s after 44 years. Mr. Cason had a well-developed sense of humor, always joking and teasing those around him. He was a simple man, who lived a simple life, loved watching people, and was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Dot and Jimmy McGee and Debra and Larry Kirkland, all of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Malcom and Maria Cason, also of Valdosta. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Mary Tedder of Raleigh, N.C. and Jessie Earl Hubbard of Valdosta. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jemmie Lou Cason and a son, Raymond Cason.

The funeral for Mr. Cason will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Chip Fuller will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
