Ellen McNair Hornbuckle, 82, of Valdosta, passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital on Nov. 3, 2013.
She was born in North Augusta, S.C., on Aug. 27, 1931, to the late Milton and Sarah McNair. Mrs. Hornbuckle was a graduate of North Augusta High School where she was an honors student and cheerleader. She received her degree as a registered nurse from the Barrett School of Nursing at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. in 1952. She married Robinson Carl Weeks and moved to Quitman, Ga. where she raised her family and was a member of the First Baptist Church. In the late 1970's she moved to Valdosta and worked for the American National Red Cross as a nurse with the bloodmobile unit. She earned her GRI designation and sold real estate in Valdosta and Dunwoody, Ga., where she lived with her husband, Robert Bruce Hornbuckle. In 1995, they retired to Valdosta where Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and tending her garden. She spent the last several years of her life as a resident of Willow Wood at Fellowship Home and a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Jan Hannay (Steve) of Valdosta, Lisa Bailey (David) of Tallahassee, Fla., and Robin Baker (Ben) of Flowery Branch, Ga.; grandchildren, Allison Shenton (Chad) of Valdosta, Stephen Hannay (Brock) of St. Matthews, S.C., Kaitlyn Hannay of Valdosta, and Andrew Baker of Flowery Branch, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Charley Shenton and Bo Shenton of Valdosta. Ellen is also survived by a brother, Lewis McNair of Tallahassee, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Ann Stroud of Atlanta, Ga., and a brother, Jake McNair of Augusta, Ga.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, in the chapel at Fellowship Home with the Rev. David Tart officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Willow Wood at Fellowship Home.
