Carol Sirmans, Sr.

- — Carol Sirmans, Sr. fondly known by his family as “Daddy Carol”, age 83, of Milledgeville, Ga., died Saturday, October 19, in Coliseum Hospital in Macon, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home with burial to follow at Baldwin Memorial Gardens.

Carol was born in Lanier County, Lakeland, GA, on July 27, 1930, he was the son of Marvin and Orlie Fort Sirmans. After graduating from high school, Carol served 2 years as an Infantry Instructor in the US Army. After serving his country, he finished his education at the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in poultry science and education. After marrying Carole Ann Smith of Alpharetta, Ga., on December 27, 1953, he became the County Extension Agent for Baldwin County. He remained county agent until his retirement in 1987. Carol was a Master 4Her. He and his wife, Carole, started the “Browns Crossing Craftsman Fair” in 1970. They hosted this event until its closing in 1999. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Leader, Sunday school teacher and wherever he was needed. He loved gardening, cooking, playing tennis, making pottery, and teaching Sunday school.

Carol was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bernice A. Price. 

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Carole Sirmans; his sons, Carol Sirmans, Jr. and his wife, Marty, Michael  Sirmans and Glynn R. Sirmans and his wife, Sandy, all of Milledgeville; his grandchildren, Tiffany S. Ulrich (Bryan), Phillip C. Sirmans, Megan S. Zimmermann (Kris), Amber Beth Sirmans, and John Michael Sirmans; great grandchildren, Avery, Cambree, Canyon, & Kolin; one sister, Freda Denzer (L.A.) of Valdosta, Ga.; many nieces and nephews; many loving caregivers, especially Amanda & Blake.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that any memorial be made to Pleasant Grove UMC, 701 Browns Crossing Rd., Milledgeville, GA or another charity of your choice.
