George Harel (Bud) Carson

VALDOSTA — George Harel (Bud) Carson, 79, of Lakeland, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 24, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born April 6, 1934, in Port Arthur, Texas to the late James Albert and Iola Lee Clifton Carson.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, George Harel Carson Jr.; and an infant daughter, Catherine Leann Carson.

He retired as a Superintendent III Resource Officer with the Department of Natural Resources in Florida. He was a member of the Camp Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Clinch County, Ga., a member of the Blue Lodge in Texas and a 32nd degree Mason. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. He was involved in many charitable organizations and events through his church and community. He was passionate about the organization “Peanut Butter and Jesus.”

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Virmell Croley Carson of Lakeland, Ga.; daughter, Debbie Long of Bradenton, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Sharon Carson of Arcadia, Fla.; grandson, Kit Carson of Arcadia, Fla.; granddaughter, Rhoda Leann and Matt Yost of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandson David and Andrea Carson of Arcadia, Fla.; granddaughter, Tifanny and Buddy Hall of Myakka City, Fla.; grandson, Cody and Erika Long of Bradenton, Fla.; granddaughter, Cierra Long of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Carson and Harley Yost of Jacksonville, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Whitney Hall of Myakka City, Fla.; great-grandson, Wyatt Hall of Myakka City, Fla.; sister, Dorothy Jones of Ohio; sister, Thelma Lazzari of Texas; sister, Lehr Mae of Miser, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Jimmie Lee and Kendrick Smith of Salisbury, N.C.; brother and sister-in-law, James C. and Ann Croley of Tulsa, Okla.; a number of nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, in the Camp Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Clinch County, Ga., with burial in Fender Cemetery in Lanier County, Ga.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today between 6 and 9 p.m.
