The Valdosta Daily Times
Mr. James Kenneth “Kenny” Thompson, of Ft. Worth, Texas, formerly of Valdosta, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, following a lengthy battle with mesothelioma.
Kenny had lived in the Metro Fort Worth, Texas area for the last 22 years and was a multi-store manager for Payless Shoe Source. He coached countless young people in Valdosta and the Fort Worth, Texas area, and A Place for Grace Children’s Home was very special to his heart. Kenny read The Valdosta Daily Times each day, was a diehard Wildcat fan, cheered for the Blazers, rooted for the Braves, and tolerated his family’s love for the Plowboys. He attended Willow Park Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his Pastor, Clark Bosher. However, Kenny’s love for God, his family, and especially his grandchildren surpassed all of these things.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Thompson of Ft. Worth, Texas and their three children; son Stephen (Crystal) Thompson, and children Nathan Thompson and Paige Thompson; daughter Shannon (Billy) Poling, and daughters Payton Poling and Caylie Poling; son Jared (Trista) Thompson and children Kal-El Thompson and Alora Thompson; brother, Kent (Lisa) Millay; nephew, Kyler Millay; sister Sherry (David) Goldsberry; nieces, Mary Lauren Goldsberry, Anna Goldsberry, and Madison Goldsberry; and a host of other loving family members and close friends. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Mary Wilson and a brother Ricky Wilson.
Kenny was laid to rest at Laurel Land in Crowley, Texas on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2014. Condolences may be conveyed directly to the family at firstname.lastname@example.org or anyone wishing to pay tribute to him may make a donation is his honor to A Place for Grace at 100 Christipher Court, Weatherford, TX 76088 or on line at www.aplaceforgrace.org . — Laurel Land Funeral Home, Fort Worth, Texas.
