Richard “Red” Fiffie

VALDOSTA — Mr. Richard “Red” Fiffie was born on June 19, 1958 in Madison, Fla. to the late Mr. Jake and Mrs. Gladys Fiffie. He departed this life on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center.

He attended the Valdosta City School System. Richard worked at Valdosta State University for nearly 20 years as a Painter. He was a dedicated employee at Stevens Funeral Home until he was no longer able to work. Richard accepted the Lord as his Savior and became a member of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. William C. Morgan, whom he admired dearly.

Richard affectionately known as “Red” had a loving heart for those who he met. He was always eager to help others along the way. He loved his friends at the “Tree of Knowledge.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; A.B. Fiffie; four sisters, Hazel Fiffie, Loretta Fiffie, Roberta Fiffie and Emma Jean Scurry.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife; Mrs. Gayle Smith Fiffie of Valdosta; a loving and devoted god mother, Mary H. Stevens; one sister, Dorothy Jean Fiffie of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Mr. Julius Fiffie of Valdosta and Tony Fiffie of Miami, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Bessie (Ben) Hart of Valdosta; two aunts, Mrs. Laura Dell Johnson of Atlanta and Cora Gaines of Valdosta; specials  cousins, Beatrice Straughter, Rev. Johnny B. Straughter, Louvenia Straughter, Emma Austin and W.C. “Doug” Straughter; special friends, Larry Moody, Donnie Adkins, Milton Grambell, Donna Smith, J.C. Wolfe, Rev. Edgar and Mrs. Mary Roberts and the Tree of Knowledge  family; also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sorrowful friends and the Stevens Funeral Home staff. A special thanks to Dr. Simon  B Adames and the Greystone Medical Clinic Staff, Dr. Gerald Light, Dr. Arunas Urbonas and the South Georgia Medical Center Staff.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. William C. Morgan, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Sweetfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Quitman. —Stevens Funeral Home of Valdosta
